Dr. Axel Vargas is an Attending Anesthesiologist with extensive
experience in the areas of Ambulatory Anesthesia, Regional Anesthesia,
Interventional Pain Management, Minimally Invasive (MIS) Endoscopic
Spinal Surgery, Endoscopic Spinal Stenosis and Discectomy Surgery,
Sacro-Iliac (SI) Joint Fusion, and in general all Interventional Spine
procedures as well as Neuromodulation techniques, i.e., dorsal column
spine stimulation.

physician or surgeon as well as with other specialists whose expertise may be required. Since pain is often caused by a combination of factors, team approach is required for its successful management.Therefore a multidisciplinary approach to our patient's care is the best way to resolve the pain problem in the
most effective and timely manner.

Our Staff

A rigorous program of continuing education at River North Interventional Pain Management Consultants is focused on maintaining and enhancing the knowledge and skills of the entire staff. Everyone involved in your care at is certified and prepared to assist you with your needs. Most procedures may be performed on the same day of your initial appointment or on the following appointment. The practice is equipped with fully-staffed Operating and Recovery rooms as well as equipment for digital-substraction fluoroscopy, Intra-discal procedures, PRP, Stem-Cell injections, Percutaneous Discectomies, Disc decompression, Intradiscal biacuplasty, Dorsal Column Spinal Cord Stimulator Trials and Placements, Neuroplasty, Vertebroplasty, as well as Radiofrequency Rhizotomy/ablation and Coablation Nerve Lesioning, among others.

Our Philosophy

Our PHILOSOPHY is to help all our patients become pain free, or decrease their pain considerably to allow them to restore their functionality as soon as possible. This is achieved via a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach, i.e., early Pain Intervention, focused Physical Therapy and a combination of medications, all orchestrated between the referring Physician, the Physical Therapist, the Orthopedic Surgery and Neurosurgery specialists and the Interventional Pain physician specialist.

In our practice, NARCOTIC medications ARE RARELY USED and NEVER ARE a remedy of first choice.

Several Locations

River North Interventional Pain Management Consultants has several locations throughout the Chicagoland area; we see patients either in our downtown offices, i.e., 680 North Lake Shore Drive, North Michigan Avenue and West Delaware Place.

We also see patients at any of our several peripheral locations including: offices in Andersonville, North Chicago, Evanston, Wilmette, Skokie, Lindenhurst, Cicero and Aurora.

On occasion we see patients in the Dearborn-Detroit (Michigan) area and in the Naperville area as well.

State-of-the-Art

At River North Interventional Pain Management Consultants, we perform ALL of our Surgical Procedures, including complex Operations such as Minimally Invasive (MIS) Endoscopic Spinal Surgery, Endoscopic Spinal Stenosis and Discectomy Surgery, Sacro-Iliac (SI) Joint Fusion, percutaneous discectomy and nucleoplasty, radiofrequecy ablations, etc.,in one of our fully-accredited, State-of-the-Art Surgical Facilities with Operating Room fully-equipped with the best and most advanced medical technology available.

Therefore HOSPITAL visits are NOT NECESSARY.
